Welcome to Sierra County! Birding Pt 6

Percha Dam State Park:  20 miles south of T or C on Hwy 187 or Exit 59 off I-25.  This park acts as a migrant trap along the Rio Grande and is considered to be the best birding site for land birds along the entire river.  The Park can be spectacular during migration "I've seen the trees dripping with warblers"...Jerry Oldenettel, avid birder and ABA member.  In early May look for Warblers, Buntings, Tanagers, Sparrows and Vermilion Flycatcher.  Mid April to mid May and late august through September are peak migration periods.  Spring and fall bring species such as White-Throated Swift, Olive-Sided Flycatcher, Savannah Sparrow, Lark Bunting, Yellow-Headed Blackbird, Black and White Warbler, American Redstart and Nashville Warbler just to name a few.  "The river is a lifeline for migrating and nesting birds, and the surrounding desert only concentrates the birds for us"...Art Arenholz, member ABA and Audubon Society.  A must see!!
