October in Elephant Butte

Posted October 1, 2011

Wow...where did the summer go?  It's already time for the Sierra County Fair next weekend.  I hope you and your family are able to go to the fair and enjoy some quality time together.
For those of you that know the LaFont family, Elias Severino LaFont Anselmo was born this week.  He is the beautiful new son of Jeff and Madeline LaFont Anselmo.  Bet you can't guess where Susie is right now, huh?

Next Sunday, the 8th is a Sunrise Regatta on the lake..the Rio Grande Sailing Club will be out in full force...it is always so beautiful to see the sailboat regattas...let's hope they have great sailing weather.
I have an exciting event to tell you about.  The Elephant Butte Lake RV Resort will be having a special "Elephant Butte Oktoberfest" on Friday, October 21st.  Bring your rig to the RV Resort and stay overnight for free!  We will have beer, brats and all the side dishes for a terrific Oktoberfest celebration.  We'll have entertainment out on the big patio...just a wonderful evening for our community. The fun starts at 4pm but you can get your rig in earlier.  The Resort is not completed yet but this weekend we had our first guests...power and water is running.  The laundry and showers are up and running.  We are stocking the store right now and plan to start building the recreation building next.  To make a reservation, just call 744-5996!
I have attached our daily lunch and dinner specials for you.
The Chamber will have its annual Casino Night here at the Inn on Saturday, October 22nd...be watching for details.
Be sure to make us your Football Headquarters...it's a lot of fun to have a group of people in the tavern cheering for their team and booing the opposition...good snacks..cold drinks..doesn't get much better than that.
Alex Rentz will be our guest massage therapist at the Ivory Spa on Sunday,10/02/11.  Alex has over 25 years experience in body work and currently teaches the massage therapy program in Northern Community College. We are delighted to have Alex working with us. Make your appointment now...744-5431...his schedule fills up fast!  If you can't make it tomorrow, he will be back the weekend of October 15th!  We'll have a great special that weekend:  Have a massage for the regular price...get a second one at half price!!  You could schedule a couples massage...one of you would be charged only half the normal rate. The couples massage could be scheduled at the same time or at different times..whatever works for you.  This deal doesn't come around very often

October is Caramel Month and the Inn is the place to be to celebrate! For a special treat, try our Carmel Turtle Ice Cream Cake..(check out the photo on our website or Facebook..yummy!) Ice cream with a chocolate graham cracker crust, caramel topping drizzled over the top, whip cream and if you are a cheesecake lover, check out the Grand Slam Pie..it's a sophisticated snickers-like cheesecake...hints of caramel, nuggets...heaven! Don't miss your chance to treat yourself to a little piece of culinary heaven!!

Thank you for your patronage and support of the Elephant Butte Lake Resort!  cool

Constitution Week

Posted September 18, 2011

Did you know this is Constitution Week in America?

Constitution Day (or Citizenship Day) is an American federal observance that recognizes the adoption of the United States Constitution and those who have become U.S. citizens. It is observed on September 17, the day the U.S. Constitutional Convention signed the Constitution in 1787.

The law establishing the holiday was created in 2004 with the passage of an amendment by Senator Robert Byrd to the Omnibus spending bill of 2004. Before this law was enacted, the holiday was known as "Citizenship Day". In addition to renaming the holiday "Constitution Day and Citizenship Day," the act mandates that all publicly funded educational institutions provide educational programming on the history of the American Constitution on that day. In May 2005, the United States Department of Education announced the enactment of this law and that it would apply to any school receiving federal funds of any kind. This holiday is not observed by granting time off work for federal employees.

When Constitution Day falls on a weekend or on another holiday, schools and other institutions observe the holiday on an adjacent weekday. This was the case in 2005, when Constitution Day was generally observed on Friday, September 16 and 2006 when the holiday was observed on Monday, September 18.

Universities and colleges nationwide have created "U.S. Constitution and Citizenship Weeks" in order to meet the requirements of the law. For example, the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) has created a celebration week that includes "Constitution Trivia Contests", distribution of free copies of the U.S. Constitution, a campus & community fair (in which volunteer and community groups can share information with students), a web page with facts and links related to the Constitution and history of the United States. MSOE has also distributed thousands of free "Presidential quote" t-shirts to all students on campus.

I got this information from wikipedia.......Enjoy the week! cool
