Elephant Butte Lake State Park plays host to a spectacular annual Fourth of July fireworks display attracting over 100,000 folks. This weekend, the annual Balloon Regatta displays dozens of colorful hot air balloons ascending over the water. Spring, summer and fall are the seasons for drag boat races and sailboat regattas, all free to the public!

The Luchini Trail is close to the park's main entrance. The 1.6 mile walking trail introduces visitors to the Chihuahuan Desert vegetation with over a dozen marked plants typical to the area. Allow 45 minutes.

Elephant Butte Lake State Park is New Mexico's largest and most visited state park. The park offers a large variety of water sports including waterskiing, powerboating, sailboating, canoeing, personal watercrafting, windsurfing, swimming and scuba diving. Fishing is an ever-popular year-round activity with anglers catching striped bass, walleye, largemouth, smallmouth and white bass, catfish, crappie, carp and bluegills. The lake hosts many summer bass tournaments and a big fall carp roundup, attracting thousands of anglers. Three full-service marinas on the lake offer dock space, fuel and other supplies and boat and personal watercraft rentals. Several boat ramps within the state park provide easy access to the water. Private guide services and experienced boat and motor repair services are available locally. As most people have heard, the level of the water is down but it is still the state's largest lake!!

Elephant Days - the City of Elephant Butte's Annual Celebration
Mostly on Water Street across from City Hall in Elephant Butte
Events kick off Friday afternoon with a quilt show opening at 2pm, followed by the official opening of the event at 4. Saturday's slate includes live music, a 10am parade, "Show and Shine" car and motorcycle show/judging, and thrilling motocross acrobatics displays by the Brigade FMX team from 3-7pm. The fun continues on Sunday with music from On Call, more motorcycle acrobatics and closing ceremonies. The Elephant Butte Balloon Regatta is happening right next door at the state park, so arrive early to catch the ascent or descent (see below for details).

32nd Annual Elephant Butte Balloon Regatta
6-10am, Lions Beach, Elephant Butte Lake State Park (enter through the main gate)
Registration for pilots & skippers (bring proof of insurance and log books) is usually on Friday evening, followed by a reception for pilots, skippers, and sponsors. Events for spectators include Saturday & Sunday daily balloon ascension and the balloon-boat relay race. Skippers meetings are set at 6am Friday and Saturday, with lift-off at daylight. Balloon glows are planned for Friday and Saturday nights in conjunction with Elephant Days (see above). Standard park entrance fees apply. C.A.S.T. for Kids Fishing Tournament
7am-12pm, Elephant Butte Lake State Park

Hot Springs Historic District:
There are currently 10 bathhouses in downtown T or C, each one unique! Most are restored in a quaint colorful style. Some offer tiled tubs which are refilled for each bath, others have natural pebble-bottom pools through which the hot mineral water constantly flows. Try them and find your favorite!! Veterans Memorial Park & Museum. Located at 996 S. Broadway, next to NM State Veterans' Home...open daily..free.
