The New Mexico Parks, the official sponsor of "Adventure" will have Historic 1st Day Hikes at Elephant Butte Lake State Park on January 1st for two "1st Day Hikes"!
These Hikes will run from 10am - 2pm:
Historic Elephant Butte Dam Hike (East Side)
**starts at the overlook on SR 51/177 at 10am
**Approximately 3/4 mile long hike across the dam
**Presentation on the history of Elephant Butte Dam
Dirt Dam Hike (West side)
**Meet at Dirt Dam parking lot off of SR195
**Approximately 3.6 miles long
Dam will be accessible from both ends. Fees are waived for this event.

Once again, the Bank of the Southwest is sponsoring their annual "Dream Tree" program and are joining with the T or C Rotary Club to provide a bountiful offering of Christmas cheer for area youngsters.
Anyone interested is encouraged to stop by either branch office, select one or more tags representing less fortunate youngsters from the community, and purchase a special Christmas gift for the identified child.
All gifts must be returned (unwrapped or in gift bags) to either of the bank branches no later than noon on Friday, December 19.

Elephant Butte Lake offers exceptional seasonal opportunities to see American White Pelicans, Sandhill Cranes, Snow Geese, Western & Clark’s Grebes, Terns and more, as do nearby surrounding areas such as Percha Dam, Las Palomas Marsh and Caballo Lake. Further north between Elephant Butte and Socorro, you’ll find Bosque del Apache, abundant with migratory birds in spring and fall.
